Isabella Catenaro is an emerging artist, based in Meanjin [Brisbane], Australia. Through sensorial depictions of their body as a site of dirt, Catenaro confronts their dysphoria towards the pseudo-dilemma presented by antinomies: private versus public; feminine versus masculine; beauty versus sin; familiar versus uncanny; purity versus abjection.  In ritualistic performances and installation, their abject-queer-uncanny AFAB body converges with the body and spirit of Christ: transgressing and transcending the traditional gender-essentialist axisCatenaro installs remembrances, interactive edible sculptures, needlework and audio-visual digital media.

I want to pay respect to the traditional custodians of the land on which I operate and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
